About Indonesia National Gallery
Indonesia National Gallery is an art Museum institution and center for modern and contemporary art which aims at protecting, developing, making a proper use of artworks as a cultural-education facility and recreation, as well as a media for the development of creativity and art appreciation.
This institution was officially opened on 8th May 1999. It is now under the Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia. It is located in the centre of the capital city of Indonesia, close from the National Monument, National Museum, National Library, Presidential Palace, Istiqlal Mosque, Emmanuel Church and Gambir Train Station. Its Address is a Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur No.14, Central Jakarta.
The etabilisment of Indonesian National Gallery is the realization the effort in building the National Art Hall / National Art Development Cnter which has been pioneered since 1960s.
While waiting for the realization of the National Art Hall, Prof. Dr.Fuad Hasan ( at that time was the Minister of Education and Culture ) renovated the main building into a Visual Art Exhibition Building, Ministri of Education and Culture, as a facilityfor activities and appreciation of visual art which was officialityopen in 1987.

Indonesia National Gallery collects, acquires and exhibits artworks such as paintings, sketches, graphics, sculptures, ceramics, photography, crafts, and installation art. Some are works by: Raden Saleh, Hendra Gunawan, Affandi, S. Sudjojono, Basoeki Abdullah, Barli Sasmitawinata, Trubus, Popo Iskandar, Ahmad Sadali, Nashar, Sujana Kerton, H. Widayat, Abas Alibasyah, Srihadi Soedarsono, Sunaryo, Amrus Natal sya, Hardi, Heri Dono, Dede Eri Supria, Ivan Sagita, FX Harsono, Lucia Hartini, Iriantie Karnaya, Hendrawan Riyanto, Nyoman Gunarsa, Made Wiyanta, Ida Bagus Made, I Ketut Soki, Wassily Kandinsky, (Rusia), Hans Hartung (Germany), Victor Vasarely (Hungary), Sonia Delaunay (Ukraine), Pierre Sausages (France), Zao Wou ki (China). Moreover, artworks from Sudan, India, Peru, Cuba, Vietnam, Myanmar.
The activities in Indonesia National Gallery are exhibitions ( permanent, temporary, traveling), preservation, ( conservation, restoration, documentation), seminar, festival, competition, etc, which are related to the effort of increasing the understanding, skill, and appreciation, of visual art. Indonesian National Gallery also provides a service for collection research and guiding for student and the general public.
